Home water safety

There can be many water hazards in a home:

  • baths
  • buckets of water
  • ponds
  • bird baths
  • pet water bowls
  • toddler pools
  • fish tanks
  • tanks
A toddler laughs and plays in a brigh paddling pool.

Stay with your child when they are in the bath.

Never leave an older child to watch a younger child.

Don’t forget to empty the bath when you’re finished.

These simple habits can save children from drowning at home:

  • Keep the door to the laundry and bathrooms closed.
  • Keep lids on buckets and out of reach of children.
  • Empty buckets when you finish using them.
  • Cover ponds, water tanks and bird baths.
  • Keep pet water bowls and fish bowls out of reach of children.
