How to share your location

Reading an address is different from country to country.

Let me show you how to share your address in an emergency!

If an address is located in the Melbourne metropolitan area, it is a metro area.

If the address is outside of Melbourne, it is a regional area.

Every address is part of a local government area.

Find the name of your local government area here:

Addresses in Victoria follow this format:

Metro areas
Unit/number, street name, suburb, STATE, postcode
eg: 3/36 Eighth street, Dandenong, VIC 3175

Regional areas
Unit/number, street name, town, STATE, postcode
eg: 17 High street, Mildura, VIC 3500

Find the street name on street signs.

In this picture, the street is Cressy Street.

The number of the house or building might be on the mailbox or on the house.

In this picture, the house number is 41.

A house displays its address number on the letterbox and the front of the building.

When the address is divided into smaller units, the unit number goes at the start before a slash.

Other words for unit are apartment (apartment), suite (suite) or factory (factory).

For example: Suite 101/398 Sydney Road, Coburg, VIC 3058

Not all addresses have a unit number.

Practice how to pronounce your address.

For example: Suite 101/398 Sydney Road, Coburg, VIC 3058.

You don’t say the slash.
You can say the numbers as digits.

Say: Suite 101, 3-9-8 Sydney Road, Coburg, VIC, 3-0-5-8

If you need help with how to pronounce the streets and suburbs, ask a local person, or use Google Translate.
